Jr. Levels Latin Club Extending to 2022-2023 School Year

After a successful summer session, we are excited to announce that the Great Neck Public Library Latin Club is back for the 2022-2023 school year! Thank you to library staff members Mr. Adam Hinz, youth services coordinator, and Barry Weil, manager of Levels, for all of your assistance in this whole process.

Over the summer, with the help of a summer grant from Aequora, we successfully ran the program for Junior Levels (4-6th graders) through the GN Library. It was wonderful making bullas, wreaths, and togas with the students while learning about the Romans -- their language, culture, history, and mythology. After a summer of knowledge, we concluded our last meeting with a Roman feast! Although we could not eat certain Roman foods, it was fun dining like a Roman -- lying down :)

For the 2022-2023 school year, the Latin Club will be open to both Junior Levels and Levels, for 5-8th graders. We will be meeting every other Tuesday from 7-8pm starting on 10/18. Just as the summer program involved lots of hands-on activities and crafts, this year-long program will as well. However, because of the older age group, there will also be a greater opportunity for more structured learning and extra help sessions. In addition, thank you to Ascanius: The Youth Classical Institute for your support through the Classical Promise Grant to help run our program!

We are excited to welcome returning members and new students to the program! If you are interested in participating, register here and join our Google Classroom. Additionally, if you cannot attend in person, please email latinforall@gmail.com or dkobrick@gmail.com for a Zoom link.

If you have any questions, also feel free to contact levels@greatnecklibrary.org or 516-466-8055 ext. 216
